Lease Application

The lease application is a document or form that is filled out and signed by a tenant being considered for a lease. Before a tenant can engage in a lease, tenant screening must be used to ensure they are not an excessive risk. During this process, a range of information will be used for evaluation, to determine trustworthiness and financial ability. After being filled out by the potential tenant, the lease application will have compiled much of the information that is needed to complete screening. Depending on the landlord, a potential tenant may also be asked to consent for a credit check or other type of background check. However, in accordance with tenant rights, landlords cannot discriminate by reason of race, age, color, or creed from the information provide in the lease application.
