Lease Termination Letter

While tenants rights protect tenants from unlawful actions like evictions, there are also equally important laws in place that protect the rights of landlords as well. As one of the many landlord rights, every landlord has the legal right to be notified if a tenant plans on breaking a lease. In the manner that landlords must provide notices of eviction, the same standard also applies from the opposite side of the relationship. Unless noted otherwise in the lease, tenants are legally obligated to notify the landlord, usually letter, that they will be ending the current lease without renewal. A lease termination letter is a formal document that identifies the lease being terminated and also provides an official date of termination. If a tenant neglects to use a lease termination letter or other form of notice, they may be legally bound to an additional month of lease.
