Lease Termination Notice

When a landlord plans on evicting a tenant, the law requires that the tenant is given adequate notice. By the same concept, a tenant who will be terminating a lease must provide notice, completed either by means of a letter or other document. In fact, depending on the terms of your lease, neglecting to provide the proper notice to the landlord can automatically extend your lease. As the lease reaches an end, or if the lease includes an early termination clause, the tenant should provide this notice, by letter, with at least 30 days before the lease is scheduled to end. To write the lease termination notice, standard letter formatting should be used - date, name, and signature are necessary to make the notice legal. The body of the lease termination notice should consist of the date of termination, the remaining rental, and the early termination clause, if applicable.
