Sample Leases

Sample leases are often provided to prospective tenants in order to review the terms of a lease before deciding to sign official lease papers. In some cases, sample leases may be available to view on a leasing company's website. They are generally blank leases without specific names and dates filled in. A potential tenant may decide to have an attorney review a sample lease; this is more common with commercial leases, which are generally both more detailed and more open to negotiation. Landlords may also use sample leases as examples when creating their own custom leases. Standard sample leases can be obtained and downloaded through various websites, and can also be purchased at specific retail stores, such as stationary stores or other stores which sell legal documents. Sample leases do not carry any obligations unless properly filled out and signed; they are used by both landlords and tenants as references or templates.
