Sublet Rental
When a person needs a place to live for a short amount of time, for example when taking a summer job in a different city, a less costly alternative to an extended hotel stay is to find a sublet rental. People often sublet their homes or apartments when they have time left on their lease but wish to live elsewhere. A sublet rental usually requires a person to sign an official legal document outlining the terms of the sublet, and a landlord or property owner must first be notified and give consent before a sublet rental agreement can be signed. The original tenant then collects rent payments from the new tenant who has taken his or her place in the property, and uses that money to pay rent to the landlord. A sublet rental may be rented unfurnished, or the original tenant may rent out their home furnished. Sublets are also common in commercial properties, as businesses change, move, and grow.
