Sublet Room

It is possible to sublet an individual room in a house or apartment; this is common among people living in collective living arrangements, where roommates may come and go, or among college students, who often transfer to different schools or leave their rental units during summer break. Landlords may sometimes expressly disallow sublets in the terms of a lease agreement, however if a lease does not contain a clause disallowing a sublet the landlord must still be notified of a tenant's intent to sublet his or her room. The landlord may also ask for additional information before allowing or denying a sublet. The original renter is still responsible for the terms of their lease, even if they are no longer living in the rental unit. The person who takes over the sublet room usually pays rent to the original tenant, who then uses the money to pay rent to the landlord.
