Tenant Application
To evaluate if tenants are worth taking the risk, most landlords place potential tenants through a process called tenant screening. During tenant screening, tenants will be assessed based on information provided by the tenant. The initial step in tenant screening usually consists of a tenant application, a document or form which may also double as the lease application. The tenant application requires that the potential tenant lists information that may be helpful in screening, including but not limited to current address, employment information, family information, contact information, and possibly a questionnaire. Most tenant applications will end with a consent to access personal information, and a demanding few may even request that tenants pay a fee to provide a complete background check.
