Tenant Right
As a landlord, the tenant right to things such as privacy, protection from discrimination, a fair security deposit, a safe living environment, and being informed about the lease should not be taken lightly. According to real estate law, landlords are responsible for upholding the rights of tenants not only in creating the agreement, but also in honoring the agreement and treating the tenant properly during the course of the lease as well. In terms of privacy, which is sometimes controversial, the landlord is required to provide adequate notice before entering the house, with the only exception being in case of an emergency. The tenant right against discrimination usually comes into play to prevent landlords from using race, color, religion, sex, or disability as a basis in tenant screening. Beyond fulfilling safety needs and other repairs, the landlord is also required to inform the tenant of safety problems, and also of other important details such as eviction or a change in utility providers.
