Unlivable Rental Apartment

An unlivable rental apartment is an apartment unfit for anyone inhabit. It is the responsibility of the landlord to ensure his or her rental apartments do not reach a state where the city can condemn them. The landlord/landlady must make sure the property is free from safety and health hazards. He or she must ensure all the utilities – water, heat and hydro, are functioning correctly. He or she must ensure everything in the apartment is up to code. The gas appliances and gas piping and lines require inspection to retain a fit apartment. In many states, the term inhabitable includes the right to a home free of mold and lead. If the tenant is not responsible for making the place uninhabitable, he or she may call in the only person capable of declaring the place to be an unlivable rental apartment - a government official. Legal action is then possible.
