State Dollar Limits on Deposits

Many states limit the amount of money a landlord can collect as a deposit to an amount equal to one or two months' rent. In some states, the limit varies depending on factors such as the age of the tenant (a senior citizen may have a lower deposit ceiling), whether the rental unit is furnished, and whether the tenant has a pet.
